Hello world!

Welcome to my Blog!

First of all I will talk a little about me:

I am 23 years old, I have been teaching for 4 years. I lived in New Zealand for a year and I finished high school there. When I came back I had to start working, but I didn’t really know what to do! So I decided to become an English teacher. At the time it seemed suitable, after all it was just a temporary job. I started teaching at a school for adults. I was only 18, and the ones who met me, knows that I look even younger. So there I was, teaching 40 year old people who thought I was 14! It was really hard at the beginning, there was a class that even asked the coordinator to change the teacher because I was too young. Well at the time I was really inexperienced and so, I didn’t know how to handle a class of rude adults.

After 3 months I had to look for another school to teach because I was fired. The reason: inexperience. Ok, I found another school and there I taught teens and adults. I saw some pretty wild things at that school: the teenagers were really rude and disrespectful, and so were the adults, who would answer their mobile phone inside the classroom while I was teaching. Of course it wasn’t all bad stuff, I made great friends who helped me to develop my skills as a teacher. But that school really bothered me, they had cameras inside the classroom and every week they watched our classes to see if we were following the procedures.

I couldn’t stay there anymore, I wasn’t a robot, I felt like I was getting dumb stead of getting wiser. I stayed there for a year and decided to try a new school. I found a friendly school and I applied. I was accepted and that made me happy. I had this wonderful training and they taught me how to be the type of teacher I always wanted to be: dedicated, kind and really good. But at the time I was in University, studying Advertisement… As I said in the beginning of this post, I was only teaching because I needed the money. But this new school changed my point of view. Anyway I had to do my internship in my area, and so I left the school.

Now I was working in an International Company, a French company. It was really hard there and I learned many things, specially how to deal with the big sharks of the company. I enjoyed being in an office, that was my original plan anyway. I always wanted to be an executive, wear fancy clothes and be respected, and now I was, I was working at the Human Resources, so people was a bit afraid of us. But then I started missing the kids, their honesty, kind, truth. People in the company just want to pull your rug!

Then I decided to go back to that wonderful school I was teaching before. They accepted me back and I have been making a great job ever since. I must say that this school provided everything a teacher needs: care and support. I may not make a fortune, but I am extraordinarily happy, just because I don’t feel lost and alone there. It feels like I belong into a family and all the teachers help each other.  And that, money can’t buy!

To end up this post I would like to say that now I don’t treat teaching as a JOB, it is much more than that. A teacher has to have the power to provide education to their students. They have to be engaged with all the aspects of teaching. It is often hard to deal with a classroom, but we also have to be able to change our ways of teaching in order to achieve great things. Many people believe that just because we teach in a second language school, then we will not provide education, but this is just wrong. Every teacher has to be capable to show to their students more than just content, they have to know that educating is part of the job.

I would like to share a video I found in youtube, just to let you know that you are not alone, and don’t ever think: ‘I am just one person, what difference can I make? ‘ – Believe, you do have the power to make a difference in somebody’s life:
